Who We Are
We are a local action group under the umbrella of Communities for Sustainable Monterey County. Our mission: To help our community transition to sustainable practices to meet the challenge of declining resources and climate change. Our vision: To help Pacific Grove serve as a model community for sustainable living. Local Focus: We promote the installation of cisterns for collecting rainwater to offset water usage during the dry season; solar panels for localized clean energy production and procurement; household energy efficiency practices; composting for reducing our impact on the waste stream and for providing organic fertilizer for yards and gardens; transitioning from single-use plastics to sustainable and reusable alternatives; biking and public transportation for lowering carbon emissions; purchasing from our farmer’s market for fresh and organic items grown close to home, and our community garden for community building.
What We Do
Our 2022 themes of action:
• Encouraging the City to develop and implement a Climate Action Plan,
• Promoting plastic pollution reduction through education, policy change, and organizing trash pick-ups and,
• Educating and engaging the community on how to plant and maintain pollinator gardens and yards with an emphasis on native plants and nontoxic maintenance.
