Who We Are

Monterey Peace and Justice Center is a nonprofit organization founded in 2004 around a common desire among individuals and local organizations to challenge the culture of violence, injustice, and environmental degradation. MPJC serves as a home base for a host of organizations including those that comprise the Peace Coalition of Monterey County. In 2008, MPJC moved to a more spacious and visible location in Seaside, where programs and educational offerings to the community have been expanded.

We envision a world where the dream of democracy is fulfilled by governments responsive to the will of the people; Where social and economic justice frees all from oppression and the conditions that lead to war; Where conflicts are resolved by negotiation and diplomacy; Where human rights and dignity are assured for all; and Where the Earth’s resources are used to sustain life rather than fuel wars and destruction.

What We Do

MPJC inspires and mobilizes the people of Monterey County to cultivate peace, social justice, nonviolence, democracy, and environmental sustainability in our community and the world through education and advocacy.

Our ongoing programs include speakers, films, discussions, forums, and workshops on a broad range of peace and social justice issues.

We offer free English Second Language classes to the community.  Classes are tailored to meet the needs and proficiency-level of our students.
