Volunteer: Horticulturist/GardenerObjective: Create and maintain a welcoming and educational green space for students attending Mae C. Johnson Education and Cultural Enrichment Academy.
Duties: Determine when corrective action is needed to improve health, vigor and appearance of plants by fertilizing, pruning, transplanting, pest control, etc. Maintain an accurate and up-to-date record on work performed while ensuring garden is cared for on a consistent schedule Possible duties include, but are not limited to: raking, weeding, shearing, edging, and hand pruning Lead and instruct the students in activities to maintain and care for the gardenDesired/Required Skills: Compassion for enriching the lives of underserved students Excellent verbal communication skills to clearly explain expertise concepts, provide instructions and deliver feedback Regular and reliable attendance
