Volunteering in 4-H is flexible and rewarding. Share your expertise and experience with the youth and other volunteers to make things happen! As a 4-H volunteer, you are important to help our youth "learn-by-doing". You will work side-by-side with 4-H youth in youth-adult partnerships, where you grow together in shared responsibility and decision-making.Volunteering in 4-H will not only benefit the youth you are working with, but you will also be able to learn and practice personal leadership skills.
You can choose to volunteer in various roles depending on your interests, availability, or expertise.
Some roles include:
- Club leader-Provide administrative support for a 4-H club.
- Project leader-Share your expertise with 4-H youth by teaching a skill.
- Participate in a committee - Help shape 4-H in California or in our county (example- Expansion and Review Committee).
- Community Outreach- Accompany 4-H Staff to community events and inform the public about the great opportunities 4-H offers and help youth engage in mini versions of 4-H activities.
- Judge projects-Spend a day or a few hours evaluating 4-H presentations and competitions.
- Help with events- Support 4-H'ers as they plan and execute activities & events.
All new and returning volunteer applications are processed through their local county Cooperative Extension office. The County Director approves applications to become a 4-H volunteer in the county. You must complete all application requirements, including the screening process and required trainings, before you are approved.
