Every Wednesday, 5-13 volunteers and 3 professional gardeners work from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm to provide landscaping services along the world-famous Scenic Pathway that runs the length of Carmel Beach. You will be given a task like sweeping, trimming, and raking. You can stay an hour of 3 hours, it's up to you. You will make some great friends, get fresh air, and be an important part of making the Pathway pristine and beautiful. We have had over 170 weekly session in the last 3 1/2 years. Don't miss out on this great volunteer opportunity.

Are you ready to sprinkle a little love in your community and help Cake4Kids build the self-esteem of underserved youth? We have an online portal listing all cake requests from our agency partners. Each request contains details about the desired theme, type of dessert, and flavor, as well as delivery location, date, and time. You select a cake request, bake it at home, and deliver the finished sweets directly to the agency that placed the request. All volunteers must be at least 16 years old (18 to volunteer on your own), fill out a volunteer application, attend an online orientation, and be able to deliver Monday-Friday during business hours.

At Make-A-Wish, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. In order to tell the stories of these children, we are looking for photographers and videographers who can take videos on the day of the kids' wishes.

We are looking for skilled, experienced videographers who have their own equipment, and experience with video editing. When we have a wish that needs a videographer in your area, we will email our list to see who is available, and sign that videographer up to take pictures at the wish.

Wishes can be a whole range of activities from a dropoff of a new computer, a child receiving a new puppy, the grand opening of a backyard play structure, a press release for a book launch, or more. When the world reemerges from COVID, these could also include shopping sprees, party wishes, wishes to be something special for a day - you name it!

Community Educators are volunteer speakers who help provide education and expand the reach of Alzheimer's Association programs. Community Educators deliver Alzheimer's Association in person on topics related to Alzheimer's disease and other dementia using prepared materials. 

These volunteers are trained to provide programs scheduled by Association staff and help identify potential community partners and education venues using their established community networks. Community educators assure that the general public, caregivers and people living with Alzheimer's or dementia are linked to Alzheimer's Association programs and our free 24/7 Helpline.  We need English and Bilingual volunteers!

We ask for a one year commitment once you're trained and have completed a background check. 

On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, one of our PM Drivers arrives at our storage unit near the Monterey Airport around 11:00-11:30 am depending on the day.  (The AM Driver will have brought the van back around 10:30 loaded with donated food.) The PM Driver loads as much more donated food and other necessities as will fit from the shelves of the storage unit into the van, including five 25-pound bags each of dry beans and rice. The Driver then pulls out the cargo van, and puts the personal car in the storage unit. The van is then driven to a distribution site in either East Salinas or Greenfield, depending on the day.  Depending on the day, the PM Driver may also need to help unload the van at the destination. When the van is empty, the PM Driver then takes the van back to the storage unit, opens the van doors and windows, collects the personal car. Between 1 and 2 pm depending on the destination, the PM Driver is finished for the day, knowing that some critical needs of many farm worker families have been met, and the van is ready to collect more food.  

On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, one of our AM Drivers arrives at our storage unit near the Monterey Airport around between 7:45 and 8:30 am depending on the day. The Driver pulls out the cargo van, and puts the personal car in the storage unit. The van is then driven to the Carmel Safeway and/or Trader Joe's in Pacific Grove, depending on the day. At the stores, with the help of Loaders who meet the Driver there, all donated food is weighed, logged and loaded into the van. The Driver then takes the van back to the storage unit, opens the van doors and windows, collects the personal car. By about 10:30 am, the AM Driver is finished for the day, knowing the food collected that morning will be delivered to hungry farm worker families that same afternoon. 

Meals on Wheels of the Salinas Valley

We need volunteers for routes throughout the Salinas Valley on delivery days - Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of every week between 9:30am - 12:30pm. Deliveries are made in Salinas on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Wednesday deliveries are made in North Monterey County and South Monterey County. We will work with your availability - choose one day per week or more, depending on your flexibility.

We also need substitute drivers who are called in as needed and do not have a regular route.  A few hours of delivering meals can make quite a difference in the life of a homebound senior citizen. Our volunteers are often the only regular contact these seniors have on a regular basis. Providing meals to older adults in need is MOWSV specialty  - we need help in Greenfield and King City!

Volunteers are asked to serve meals at two (2) congregate meal sites up to five (5) days a week - Monday thru Friday - between 11:30am-1:30pm.

The number of weekly shifts you can volunteer for is flexible with your schedule. If you are available for only one day per week, that's OK! We can use any volunteers who are looking for a regular and consistent place to volunteer their time.

Meals on Wheels Salinas Valley has been a leader in tackling senior food insecurity in Monterey County for over 50 years.

Join them as they embark on addressing one of the most pressing issues faced as an older adult: isolation and loneliness.

ConnectShine is a free social connection program dedicated to clients of the Home Delivered Meals program of Meals on Wheels of the Salinas Valley.

As a ConnectShine volunteer, you will receive firsthand experience making an impact on senior lives in the Salinas Valley, one call at a time. Make meaningful connections with homebound seniors while refortifying your social skills!

MST Navigators work side-by-side with MST staff in promoting mobility for individuals with travel challenges because increased mobility means increased independence and quality of life.

Navigators can be assigned to community centers, or outreach events to provide assistance in promoting MST services and mobility programs to the public.  Also, Navigators can assist staff in travel training activities, where they may be assigned as a Travel Companion also known as a " Bus Buddy" to travel with individuals who completed the travel training program.

Main Duty

Drive your own car for ITN Monterey County customers (seniors and people with visual impairment) to and/or from various locations so they can take care of their medical and healthcare needs, grocery and pharmacy shopping, social and recreational activities, and visits with friends and family.

Time and Location

The time commitment is completely flexible. You drive at your convenience, just tell us when you are available. You don't wait with the customer unless it's for a short time, usually 15-20 minutes.

Alliance on Aging is looking for Nursing Home Advocates! Throughout the year, Alliance on Aging makes unannounced visits to nursing homes & 'Board & Care' homes as 'we serve as the ears & eyes of those residing in care facilities'. In doing so, we have conversations with the Residents about their satisfaction with their living environment, attention to safety, quality of care and meals. By volunteering to serve as one of our California State Certified Ombudsman, you can contribute to this vital service.  We provide all the necessary training and ongoing support.  This is gratifying work and an invaluable way to give back to older adults in our community! 

Combination of in-person and Zoom training (hybrid) will be provided. Flexible volunteer hours, at least 6 hours a month required!

Volunteer mediators will have the opportunity to work directly with first time juvenile offenders (minors under the age of 18 who receive a citation from the police), victims and their families to come together in mediation to "make things as right as possible."

Victims can be heard, gain strength and often find healing along the way. Offenders are accountable, gain empathy and can create reparation in themselves, the victim and community. 

Volunteer mediators are key to the success of restorative justice in the Monterey County community, by the MC community!

Hey there! We have a fluffy bunch of 20+ rabbits at our adoption center, and we could really use some help keeping their space clean and cozy.

Our adoption center is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 am to 3 pm, and we usually start cleaning at 8 am on those days.

During the week, we also need a hand with maintenance in the mornings and evenings. We would be so grateful for your help any day of the week, and you can sign up for a slot on our website. This position supports the Regional Disaster Cycle Services department at the county level. Provide Follow up and Recovery Planning Services, including referrals, for individuals and households following regional events - primarily home fires.

Conduct follow-up for clients within 72 hours of case being opened by Disaster Action Team or Caseworker.
May also conduct Intake and provide Financial Assistance to qualified clients if case was not opened by DAT

As a transportation volunteer, your role involves traversing our service areas to ensure the prompt delivery of blood products and supplies between mobile blood drives, hospitals, and donation centers. Your commitment is crucial for the timely distribution of these items, which are essential for saving lives.

Volunteer Role Description

- Transport products and supplies to and from Vitalant facilities and community hospitals

- Retrieve blood products from Vitalant Mobile Blood Drives in neighboring communities and transport them to a Vitalant facility for processing.

- Offer outstanding customer service to the hospitals in our communities and their staff.

AFRP is always in need of event leads-if you're passionate about animal welfare, and comfortable speaking with the public we need your help! We hold various events through the year, times/dates vary. You would be trained to host our event table, and be paired with other volunteers for set-up and tear-down, and interacting with the public during the event to help the community learn about our mission, and animal programs. We host events in Monterey and Santa Cruz counties. 

In our busy main store location, we depend on volunteers to cashier. It can be fast paced at times but you always have someone with you reading off prices and bagging the items. The cash register is an older model and very easy to use. We have a very fun and interactive team in this shop and the break room is never without home made goodies. 

All proceeds are kept in Monterey County and the last year has been our best business to date in 33 years.

We have a very fun and interactive team in this shop and the break room is never without home made goodies.

Since 2013, Citizens for Sustainable Marina (C4SM) has been leading a Coast Live Oak Woodland Restoration Project outside the front of the Marina Library. Volunteers are always needed and these work parties are a great way to learn about the local native flora, see songbirds, and rub shoulders with Marina residents while improving our natural environment. Activities may include removing non-native weeds, planting and watering native plants, trees and shrubs, collecting seed, spreading mulch, installing wind screens around oak trees, and having fun!

Community Representatives are community engagers that raise awareness of Alzheimer's Association programs, provide basic disease information, and link consumers to Alzheimer's Association services.

These volunteers serve as liaisons between the Association and local groups such as neighborhoods, rural counties, business and civic organizations or faith communities. Community Representatives share information about Alzheimer's disease, free resources offered through the Alzheimer's Association, and the many ways to join our cause. We will train you so you are informed about who we are and the services we offer.

We will ask you to attend health fairs or other outreach opportunities and staff our information table. You will give out info and giveaway items and answer questions/refer people to the helpline or chapter office. There will be about one opportunity per month and you can always say no if for any reason you can't make it. We also have some fun opportunities especially for Spanish speaking volunteers!

We are looking for individuals who want to help pick up AFRP foster dogs either from boarding or their fosters home and take them out for fun afternoons. The goal is to help bring more exposure and socialization, whether it is walking them on the rec trail or having a cup of coffee in an outdoor coffee shop patio. All AFRP dogs have Adopt Me Bandanas to attract their new family!

Nancy's Project has been serving the Central Coast's Farmworker communities since 1971. They currently serve 2,121 people, 62% being children.

They are in need of volunteers to pick up donated household essentials and take the them to their storage unit. They are in additional need of those happy to pick up items at donor locations on a regular basis.

The Refurbishing Technician performs computer refurbishing for LFC. Drivers report to the Meals on Wheels facility at 700 Jewell Ave. in Pacific Grove in the morning between 8:45a.m. and 10:00a.m.

This position generally requires any where from 1 hour to two hour commitment one day a week depending on the route.

Project: Make a difference by raising funds for hands-on educational opportunities to underfunded schools! The Monterey State Historic Park Custom House Store raises funds for the Monterey State Historic Park School Programs. All profits go towards covering costs including supplies, transportation, and grants for underfunded schools, as well as the restoration of our historic structures. The Custom House Store is entirely volunteer-run and is our most important year-long fundraising effort!

Volunteers operate the park store located inside the Custom House and provide general visitor services. Training is provided for all volunteers.

Project: Make the difference in a school child's education and turn their lessons into something they'll remember for the rest of their lives! School group program volunteers assist MSHP Staff with hands-on interpretive presentations to 4th grade school classes. These activities introduce children to the tactile reality of Monterey's history and contextualize their lessons. Activities include rope making, tortilla cooking, cartography, leather branding, and playing with historic games and toys.

Shifts are from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during the School Program seasons. The active School Program seasons run from January to May and September to November. Training is provided for all volunteers.

The Elkhorn Slough Reserve has five miles of trails that wander through shady oak woodlands, grassland savannas, and across salt marsh and mudflats. Visitors of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities are invited to join weekend tours to learn more about this unique spot. Guides engage visitors in wildlife identification and help inspire conservation of California's natural resources.

Potential docents must enjoy working with the public and be able to hike 1-2 miles comfortably. Reserve staff provides  training in local natural history and conservation, as well as enrichment opportunities throughout the year for guides to expand their knowledge.

Tours are offered on Saturdays and Sundays at 10am or 11am. Scheduling is flexible, and based on your availability. We ask docents to commit to leading at least one hike a month for a full year.

What is the Walk and Bike Smart Program?  

The Walk Smart Program focuses on teaching kids about pedestrian safety by providing a fun, educational, on-foot learning experience for elementary students. Whether or not students walk to school, learning to be a safe pedestrian is a critical life skill. Our Walk Smart program is modeled on the best national practices in terms of age of delivery, diversity of teaching methods, student interaction, and course content.  

The Bike Smart Program teaches kids bike skills for life. By teaching bike safety at a young age, Ecology Action imbues children with lifelong healthy habits and a passion for pedaling. Our Bike Smart program is modeled on the best national practices in terms of age of delivery, diversity of teaching methods, student interaction, and course content.  

Volunteer Responsibilities: Assist Ecology Action Staff with instruction of youth in bike and pedestrian safety trainings (bike skills obstacle courses), set up and break down obstacle courses, and prepare materials for and assist with classroom presentations.  
  
Time Commitment: At least once a month between Monday through Friday mornings, usually 7:30am-1:30pm (time varies depending on the school site we are visiting). We begin when the academic school year begins for elementary schools across Santa Cruz and Monterey County.  
  
Benefits: Volunteers will experience working in environmental public education and/or with youth. You can gain a new skill and help advance their career in children and youth education or the environment.
