Since 2013, Citizens for Sustainable Marina (C4SM) has been leading a Coast Live Oak Woodland Restoration Project outside the front of the Marina Library. Volunteers are always needed and these work parties are a great way to learn about the local native flora, see songbirds, and rub shoulders with Marina residents while improving our natural environment. Activities may include removing non-native weeds, planting and watering native plants, trees and shrubs, collecting seed, spreading mulch, installing wind screens around oak trees, and having fun!

Community Representatives are community engagers that raise awareness of Alzheimer's Association programs, provide basic disease information, and link consumers to Alzheimer's Association services.

These volunteers serve as liaisons between the Association and local groups such as neighborhoods, rural counties, business and civic organizations or faith communities. Community Representatives share information about Alzheimer's disease, free resources offered through the Alzheimer's Association, and the many ways to join our cause. We will train you so you are informed about who we are and the services we offer.

We will ask you to attend health fairs or other outreach opportunities and staff our information table. You will give out info and giveaway items and answer questions/refer people to the helpline or chapter office. There will be about one opportunity per month and you can always say no if for any reason you can't make it. We also have some fun opportunities especially for Spanish speaking volunteers!

Be part of one of our longest running volunteer projects! Join us at Ishxenta State Park for a morning of pulling invasive French Broom from the beautiful Monterey Pine Forest. Volunteers must be comfortable walking and working in difficult terrain, off-trail, and in areas with poison oak, steep slopes, and ticks.

We are looking for individuals who want to help pick up AFRP foster dogs either from boarding or their fosters home and take them out for fun afternoons. The goal is to help bring more exposure and socialization, whether it is walking them on the rec trail or having a cup of coffee in an outdoor coffee shop patio. All AFRP dogs have Adopt Me Bandanas to attract their new family! 

Requirements: Must attend an in person training at the AFRP office where we go over AFRP protocols and procedures for dog walking.

Volunteers are responsible for providing therapeutic non-medical support as needed to hospice patients and family members! This program aims to help relieve stress, provide comfort and increase the well-being of both patients and their support systems.

Nancy's Project has been serving the Central Coast's Farmworker communities since 1971. They currently serve 2,121 people, 62% being children.

They are in need of volunteers to pick up donated household essentials and take the them to their storage unit. They are in additional need of those happy to pick up items at donor locations on a regular basis.

Bonus if you can assist with heavy items, like furniture!

The Refurbishing Technician performs computer refurbishing for LFC. Duties include removing hard drives, building computers to set standards, install software, test computers, ensure documentation is recorded correctly, etc. Refurb Technician Volunteers will be trained by shadowing the Refurb Technician Lead.

The Alliance on Aging is seeking Monterey County residents to volunteer for the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program.

 Each year the Alliance partners with the IRS & the CA Franchise Tax Board in providing free assistance to hundreds of Monterey County seniors in the preparation of their Federal & State income tax returns.  

 Tax preparation experience is required, however additional training will be provided by AoA, the IRS & the CA Franchise Tax Board

We’re open everyday between 7:30 am – 5:00 pm. Popular volunteer opportunities include staffing our clothing closet, assisting with laundry, running the shower list and greeting and dispensing coffee.

Volunteer mediators will have the opportunity to work directly with first time juvenile offenders (minors under the age of 18 who receive a citation from the police), victims and their families to come together in mediation to "make things as right as possible."

Victims can be heard, gain strength and often find healing along the way. Offenders are accountable, gain empathy and can create reparation in themselves, the victim and community.

Drivers report to the Meals on Wheels facility at 700 Jewell Ave. in Pacific Grove in the morning between 8:45a.m. and 10:00a.m.

Pick up prepackaged meals for 5 to 15 clients. Meals are delivered and transported equipment is returned to Meals on Wheels.

This position generally requires any where from 1 hour to two hour commitment one day a week depending on the route.

Kitchen prep volunteers work with our kitchen staff in sandwich and lunch preparation for meals to be delivered to our clients.

Times Vary starting at 7:00am, 7:30, 8:00 and last shift at 8:30 until 10:00am

10:00am to 12:00pm is kitchen prep for the following day organized by the chefs.

Project: Make a difference by raising funds for hands-on educational opportunities to underfunded schools! The Monterey State Historic Park Custom House Store raises funds for the Monterey State Historic Park School Programs. All profits go towards covering costs including supplies, transportation, and grants for underfunded schools, as well as the restoration of our historic structures. The Custom House Store is entirely volunteer-run and is our most important year-long fundraising effort!

Volunteers operate the park store located inside the Custom House and provide general visitor services. Training is provided for all volunteers.

The Custom House Store has volunteer shifts from 10:30 am to 1:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m every Thursday through Sunday, and on the Mondays of holiday weekends. Contact the volunteer coordinator at mshp.volcoor@parks.ca.gov for more information.

Project: Make the difference in a school child's education and turn their lessons into something they'll remember for the rest of their lives! School group program volunteers assist MSHP Staff with hands-on interpretive presentations to 4th grade school classes. These activities introduce children to the tactile reality of Monterey's history and contextualize their lessons. Activities include rope making, tortilla cooking, cartography, leather branding, and playing with historic games and toys.

Shifts are from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during the School Program seasons. The active School Program seasons run from January to May and September to November. Training is provided for all volunteers.

The Elkhorn Slough Reserve has five miles of trails that wander through shady oak woodlands, grassland savannas, and across salt marsh and mudflats. Visitors of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities are invited to join weekend tours to learn more about this unique spot. Guides engage visitors in wildlife identification and help inspire conservation of California's natural resources.

Potential docents must enjoy working with the public and be able to hike 1-2 miles comfortably. Reserve staff provides  training in local natural history and conservation, as well as enrichment opportunities throughout the year for guides to expand their knowledge.

Tours are offered on Saturdays and Sundays at 10am or 11am. Scheduling is flexible, and based on your availability. We ask docents to commit to leading at least one hike a month for a full year.

What is the Walk and Bike Smart Program?  

The Walk Smart Program focuses on teaching kids about pedestrian safety by providing a fun, educational, on-foot learning experience for elementary students. Whether or not students walk to school, learning to be a safe pedestrian is a critical life skill. Our Walk Smart program is modeled on the best national practices in terms of age of delivery, diversity of teaching methods, student interaction, and course content.  

The Bike Smart Program teaches kids bike skills for life. By teaching bike safety at a young age, Ecology Action imbues children with lifelong healthy habits and a passion for pedaling. Our Bike Smart program is modeled on the best national practices in terms of age of delivery, diversity of teaching methods, student interaction, and course content.  

Volunteer Responsibilities: Assist Ecology Action Staff with instruction of youth in bike and pedestrian safety trainings (bike skills obstacle courses), set up and break down obstacle courses, and prepare materials for and assist with classroom presentations.  
  
Time Commitment: At least once a month between Monday through Friday mornings, usually 7:30am-1:30pm (time varies depending on the school site we are visiting). We begin when the academic school year begins for elementary schools across Santa Cruz and Monterey County.  
  
Benefits: Volunteers will experience working in environmental public education and/or with youth. You can gain a new skill and help advance their career in children and youth education or the environment. Volunteering for this position can also bring lots of fun and fulfilling memories as you work with enthusiastic children that are excited about riding a bike or going on a walking field trip.

CARMEL RIVER STATE BEACH - MONTHLY VOLUNTEER DAY

Our program picks kids from 2 different elementary schools Monday to Friday. The bus driver and program assistant take about 45 minutes to complete the route.

We are looking for volunteers with handyperson skills to help with beautification projects such as painting, minor repairs, general maintenance, and outdoor grounds work.  Moderate lifting, kneeling, walking, and standing may be required.

The future begins today. Special Kids Connect is impacting the lives of Monterey County's 10,000+ children with special needs. You can be an integral part of making a difference! Here are a variety of ways in which you can help. Volunteers integral to SKC's REACH recreational & academic programs, community outreach events, and fundraisers. These opportunities are perfect for high school and college students in need of community service hours, or who just want to give back to their community! 

We always appreciate volunteers who are bilingual (Spanish speakers or those fluent in American Sign Language). Depending on the program, we may seek volunteers with additional special skills, such as musicians, photographers, athletes, etc. 

Because many programs take place on-site at various locations around Monterey County, our v volunteers generally need access to transportation in some capacity. 

All programs require all participating wear a mask, whether indoors or outdoors. This may change depending on local and state guidelines, the comfort level of our families, and COVID diagnosis rates in the county. 

We provide training for all our volunteers and have experienced staff members on-site to provide support.

Monterey County 4-H Program is looking for a social media savvy volunteer to manage the Program's Facebook page. Those interested must be proficient in Facebook, be able to follow directions, and can develop/present a plan of action. Computer access is available is volunteer on-site.   

Help your neighbor in their greatest time of need!

Home fires and other disasters can occur any time, any place. As a Disaster Action Team volunteer, you’ll provide emotional support, financial assistance, and information to help families begin the process of recovery. After your initial training, your shifts will include responding to emergencies within 2 hours, night or day, rain or shine to provide immediate compassion and care. With experience and further training you can take on leadership and response coordination roles to have a wider impact. At the same time, you’ll be developing skills that you may choose to apply to larger-scale disaster response efforts with the Red Cross. 

Time commitment: 1 six-hour shift a week. Usually 12am-6am; 6am-12pm; 12pm-6pm; 6pm-12am. 

Can you advise, arrange or provide resources to help seniors create and maintain accessible garden space? Work with active senior residents to coordinate classes, demonstrations, and work parties to grow the beauty. 

Senior and disabled residents benefit greatly by participating in hands-on arts projects. They are interested in clay modeling, drawing, painting, arts & crafts projects, woodworking, and other artistic pursuits. 

The Crafts Room is equipped with a large table, workspaces, and many supplies, and we can arrange a budget for materials for specific projects.  

If you have a skill you'd like to share, please contact Friends of Rippling River to discuss a program. A class can be a one time event, several sessions, or whatever fits your available time. 

A robust action committee is responsive and proactive in improving the lives of residents at Rippling River. We work with community partners, nonprofit service providers, and county officials. 

If you are dedicated to working with the most vulnerable, and have skills and a little time, Friends of Rippling River needs you! 

We meet once a month, and in between meetings engage with the residents, one of us will attend their monthly Residents Association meeting as a liaison, and work on bringing resources and attention to the community. Basic computer skills are helpful.

Guest Services Ambassadors make a positive impact on patients and guests as they arrive at the main entrance of our hospital.

Guest Services Ambassadors will help greet and guide patients and visitors to their destinations throughout the hospital campus. These volunteers will also deliver get-well gifts and patient belongings for distribution by the nursing staff to patients.

A majority of the gardening days are spent at the Casa del Oro garden, located on the corner of Scott and Pacific Street in Monterey, and at tCooper Molera Adobe gardens and orchard. When: Volunteer gardeners work at the Casa del Oro garden and/or Cooper Molera gardens from 9:30 – 11:30 on a weekly basis. We meet on alternating Tuesdays and Wednesdays — the first Tuesday, the second Wednesday, the third Tuesday, and the fourth Wednesday. If there is a fifth week the meeting ordinarily occurs on Wednesday. Some volunteers come weekly and others once a month — whatever works best for each person.

An equine-assisted therapy program, we are need of volunteers to help care for nine horses. Tasks include cleaning stalls, feeding horses, turning horses out in the morning and evening.

Volunteers must be over 18 and will need to walk and work in sand, lift wheelbarrow with manure, lift around alpha hay, and enjoy being around horses.

Christine Marie's StarRiders program is an all-volunteer-ran program dedicated to working with children and adults with special needs or abilities through equine-assisted therapy.

Volunteering in 4-H is flexible and rewarding. Share your expertise and experience with the youth and other volunteers to make things happen! Position Description: The EBAY Seller will upload and sell items for LFC. Duties include creating a list of items to sell, uploading photos, choosing the appropriate price for each item, receiving payments and then shipping the item/s.

The Sales & Online Marketing Manager will help promote Loaves, Fishes & Computers  sales, mostly through online marketing. Promoting sales, volunteerism, and donations will be the key focus areas. Duties include learning, managing and updating Craigslist, Google Adwords, Facebook & in-house display ads as well as other related duties.

Answers questions and delegates administrative tasks based on skill levels. Will complete higher level tasks as needed as well. A Tech Support Technician will diagnose the computer issue based off of client's description of symptoms.
