Needs From: Community Builders of Monterey County

Community Builders for Monterey County is seeking two passionate individuals this year, who understand the incredible value that volunteers bring to communities.  While we truly value nonprofit experience, it is not required that you have served on a previous nonprofit board. If you are familiar with board best practices, have a strong understanding of the nonprofit community of Monterey County, and you are able to work well with a diverse group of creative, out-of-the-box professionals creating big impact, we'd love to connect!

Your commitment is about 5 hours a month (which includes a monthly board meeting,) and a yearly working retreat prior to the beginning of our fiscal year (usually during the summer.) We also would love for you to grow so incredibly passionate about our mission, that you want to share it with your colleagues and friends to help grow our support base.

In addition to general board member expectations and responsibilities, we ask that our board of directors have an interest in positively affecting at least one of these following areas, with a primary focus:

ITNMontereyCounty is a provides 24/7, door-through-door transportation for seniors and visually impaired adults, supported by volunteer and part-time drivers. The organization is seeking board members to help guide strategy, ensure financial health, support fundraising, and act as ambassadors.

Ideal candidates bring skills in areas like finance, fundraising, community events, or strategic planning, or have connections to service areas and represented communities. Board service involves a small monthly time commitment, a meaningful annual contribution, and offers opportunities for leadership, professional growth, and deeper community connection.

ITNMontereyCounty is the only 24/7/365 transportation service that provides indvidiualized trips for seniors and vissually impaired adults. Loaves, Fishes, and Computers is currently looking for dedicated individuals to help us create lasting change for local low-income individuals, families, and volunteers in our community.
By joining our Board of Directors, you will play a vital leadership role helping to shape LFC’s vision, mission, and direction for years to come. With a small group of other devoted volunteers, you will participate in developing and implementing organizational policies, fundraising and donor development, financial oversight, and community engagement. During your first 2 years on our board, you will also have the chance to take the lead in one or more nonprofit committees with goals related to program development and delivery, outreach and organizational development, or financial oversight.

We are seeking board members who:
• Are passionate about our community, our work, and providing access to those who need it!
• Have the will and the time to devote to building and enriching the organization.
• Understand the role of a board member and participating on a board team – We can help with newcomers!
• Are willing to contribute their specific skills and expertise towards LFC’s success.

Some LFC Board of Directors key commitments and duties include:
• Providing pre-meeting review of LFC Board of Director meeting agendas and participating in monthly LFC BoD meetings — these are usually held on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at LFC Headquarters at 938 South Main St., Salinas.
• Participating in additional Board or Committee meetings as needed.
• Helping to establish policies and monitor legal compliance.
• Helping to raise funds for operations and additional staff.
• Building strong relationships with individuals, businesses, and other nonprofits in the community.
• Board Membership is a Two-Year initial term of commitment.

We are looking to develop capacity in all board skill areas and demographics, including:
• Social entrepreneurship, particularly engaging with our local communities.
• Finance and accounting, especially experience related to non-profit accounting.
• IT expertise, particularly with a background in education, human services or business.
• Experience in fundraising, marketing, and outreach, including community organizing.
• People of ALL backgrounds are encouraged to apply!

The Read to Me Project is seeking an individual who is passionate about the importance of early literacy with expertise in fundraising and marketing to join its Board of Directors. A volunteer position. Remote participation optional.

In addition to general expectations and responsibilities as a member of the board, this person will support and collaborate with the Director of Development and Marketing to meet the organization’s Strategic Plan goal to Increase Financial Resources. The strategy for achieving this goal includes someone with “door-opening” relationships that afford opportunities to introduce Read to Me Project to community leaders in business and local government, and with others s/he identifies as prospective funders. The board member will have enthusiasm for developing funding opportunities, for making funding requests, championing Read to Me Project’s message and value, garnering invitations to introductory meetings, and making presentations.
