Who We Are
Suicide Prevention Service is a program of Family Service Agency of the Central Coast, a private non-profit serving Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito Counties since 1957.
Accredited by the American Association of Suicidology and a member of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
We are dedicated to providing services that support life and promote health and safety for all members of the community. We recognize that inclusion, the experience of being accepted and safe, is how we heal from loss. We welcome people of diverse ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, ages, faiths, abilities, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
What We Do
SUICIDE & CRISIS LIFELINE - 988
The Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by calling 988. This free and confidential support service connects people in crisis or emotional distress with trained counselors. Multilingual interpreters are available, allowing support in over 150 languages. You do not have to be suicidal to call. Many people who reach out are experiencing suicidal thoughts or feelings, going through a difficult crisis, concerned about the well-being of a loved one, or grieving the loss of someone to suicide. Every caller is met with compassion, active listening, and non-judgmental support from a trained counselor or volunteer.
EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH & TRAININGS
Our presentations and trainings reach thousands of youth and adults each year. These sessions create safe spaces to explore the realities of suicide and suicide loss, challenge common myths, and connect participants with local resources. Presentations are available in both English and Spanish, and can be tailored by age group or for high-risk populations as well as general audiences. Through outreach, we aim to reduce stigma, increase compassion, and ensure that people in need know where and how to access support.
SUICIDE LOSS SUPPORT
Losing a loved one to suicide can leave survivors with deep emotional pain and many unanswered questions. Survivors may also be at increased risk for suicidal thoughts themselves. You are not alone. For suicide bereavement support, please call 831-459-9373. Our services include peer-led support groups in Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties, referrals to counseling and grief resources, helpful materials and information for the bereaved, and 24/7 emotional support via the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
