Who We Are

The Historic Garden League is dedicated to restoring and maintaining the gardens of historic Monterey to enhance the knowledge and appreciation of Old Monterey’s unique historical buildings and gardens.

What We Do

If you love gardening and enjoy enriching your life with friendships, the Historic Garden League is the place for you.

One morning each week, our volunteers gather to lovingly care for the historic gardens of Monterey while sharing friendship and garden talks – complete with tea cookies! (Please note: During COVID: distanced talks and no cookies!)

Where: A majority of the gardening days are spent at the Casa del Oro garden, located on the corner of Scott and Pacific Street in Monterey, and at the Cooper Molera Adobe gardens and orchard. When: Volunteer gardeners work at the Casa del Oro garden and/or Cooper Molera gardens from 9:30 – 11:30 on a weekly basis. We meet on alternating Tuesdays and Wednesdays — the first Tuesday, the second Wednesday, the third Tuesday, and the fourth Wednesday. If there is a fifth week the meeting ordinarily occurs on Wednesday. Some volunteers come weekly and others once a month — whatever works best for each person.
