Who We Are

A small pack of humans trying to make the world a better place. UnChained provides California’s central coast youth with the opportunity for self-reflection and personal growth while training homeless dogs in need of adoption.

What We Do

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working in Santa Cruz, Monterey and Santa Clara Counties, UnChained teaches youth how to train homeless dogs in basic skills, manners and socialization, helping the dogs become adopted into permanent homes while the youth learn valuable life skills. Through our Canines Teaching Compassion program, UnChained gives youth the mental and emotional tools they need to take agency over their lives in their own way. By learning how-to and providing a fear free, positive learning environment for their companion they learn themselves how operate in the world successfully on their own. The youth develop values of patience, respect and responsibility for themselves and others and stay committed to their dogs until the program has completed and their dogs find their forever homes.
