International School of Monterey

We are a staff of 49, board of 13, and school community of 100s, all working together to educate 418 students in grades K-8.

A mission-driven K-8 charter school working to "educate all children toward becoming conscientious, compassionate, and responsible citizens of the world," the International School of Monterey serves 418 students as Monterey County’s first and only IB World School. The International Baccalaureate has authorized ISM to offer its Primary Years Programme in grades K-5 and Middle Years Programme in grades 6-8. Also fully accredited by the Council of International Schools and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, ISM teaches toward its vision of “a world of understanding” through academic commitments to internationalism and understanding; a broad-based curriculum that includes the arts, physical education, and Spanish beginning in kindergarten; an inquiry-based-instruction model that fosters student curiosity, initiative, and lifelong learning skills; and a deep respect for diversity as an asset that enriches the educational experience for all.
